Plaque mounting (a/k/a plak mounting or block mounting) is a process whereby an image, such as a poster, photograph, or a print, is laminated onto a substrate, to be hung as a wall decoration.  The process begins with the image being glued to a medium density fiberboard (MDF) or other similar product, which is custom cut to the size of your image.  The image is then covered with a laminate film and is placed in a press for heat setting.  After the plaque is removed and cooled, it is then run through an edging machine, which bevels the leading edge and applies a colored edge trim to the piece.  Next a router is used to cut a keyhole slot in the back of the piece, for hanging.  The finished item is packaged using specially designed corner protectors and shrink-wrap. 

 

Many different substrates such as masonite, hardboard, cintra, foamcore, etc. may be used in the mounting process.
